We have been making music together for 42
years, and have been married for 40 of those years. We met
on a piano bench, and sometimes it seems we have been there
ever since. I knew from the moment I heard Karin play, that
she was a great talent
.so, I thought it best to marry
her.
We
are both graduates of Bethel College, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Dan studied voice at Bethel, the University of Minnesota,
MacPhail Center for the Performing Arts in Minneapolis,
as well as, several years of additional private study.
We
are PK's (preacher's kids), so we spent a lot of time in
church. We grew up with a great appreciation for the hymns
and traditional gospel songs of the evangelical church.
You will hear a few old favorites, as well as wonderful newer selections on “Higher Ground” and “How Can I Keep From Singing.”
We
served together for 15 years as Music Director and accompanist
in churches within the Evangelical Free and Evangelical
Covenant denominations. Since 1982, Dan has been a Financial
Advisor with Ameriprise Financial, a career change that has
helped support the music habit. Karin continues to be the
pianist and organist at our home church, Buffalo Covenant,
in Buffalo, Minnesota, just a few miles northtwest of suburban
Minneapolis, Minnesota.
For
several years we have been musical guests on the annual
Celebration of Christmas Tour, sponsored by Fellowship Ministries
of Tempe, Arizona. These tours have included the west coast,
east coast, gulf coast and America's heartland. The 2002
tour included Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
Over
the many years of performing a variety of music, we have
come to enjoy the easy listening love songs that became
known as jazz standards. The 30's and 40's produced a lot
of wonderful music in this genre. Love
Lights features some of our favorites. In the winter
of 2002, we were privileged to perform this music every
night on a Carnival cruise ship in the Southern Caribbean.
Dan's latest release (April '07) “Some Enchanted Evening” is a vocal recording of Broadway tunes accompanied by four of the best jazz musicians in Minnesota including: Gordon Johnson, Laura Caviani, Phil Hey and Pete Whitman.
Our
sacred program includes traditional, contemporary and
spirituals. We can also include an old fashioned hymn sing.
Our
secular program is a trip down memory lane. We feature
Broadway and 'pop' standards by the decade, beginning with
the 20's. We can often create a program to suit a theme.
Recent recordings include projects for both Karin and Dan. Karin has a piano only CD, Be Still…Meditations for the Thirsty Soul that is very meditative in style focused around themes of faith. It reflects "easy listening" and includes very familiar tunes. It is her hope that this recording will be the kind of music that you can listen to during the stresses of life as a source of comfort and strength. Dan and Karin are both featured on the recording How Can I Keep From Singing. This is another sacred selection of music – songs for the believer’s journey. Finally, Dan’s release of Some Enchanted Evening is Broadway tunes with a bit of Jazz flavor as he is joined by four talented Minnesota jazz musicians.
